Tire changing machine

Tire changing machines: the XP-316 groups

The XP-316 line is the catalogue's core changer family, in two clamping groups: the A group (rims 10–20 in outside, 13–24 in inside) and the B group (up to 12–25 in outside and 15–28 in inside), with helper-arm variants across both.

Fit check: fit is your rim book: the A group covers the standard car parc; the B group's clamping exists for the large-wheel end of it.

One family, two clamping groups

Every XP-316 changer shares the family's working pattern: a turntable turning at 7 rpm, a 0.75/1.1 kW motor depending on supply, tyre widths of 3–14 inches, and 8–10 Bar working pressure, on 110/220/380V supply options. The groups divide on the turntable's grip. A-group machines clamp 10–20 inch rims from outside and 13–24 from inside, over wheels to 970 mm diameter in the XP-316A itself. B-group machines open the clamping to 12–23 or 12–25 inches outside and 15–26 or 15–28 inside, over wheels to 1,140–1,180 mm.

Suffixes carry the variants: S models and the A950, B950 and B850 codes mark helper-arm and slider configurations — the devices that press and hold a stiff bead in the drop centre while the mounting head works. On run-flat and low-profile fitments those devices are the machine, practically speaking; on ordinary tyres they are ballast. Your tyre mix decides which suffixes earn their price.

Choosing inside the family

Start with clamping, not with features. List the rim sizes you fitted last month: if 20 inches is your ceiling, the A group is your machine and the XP-316A's own table (970 mm wheel, 188 kg net) is the reference. If 22–24 inch fitments are weekly, the B group is the floor, and the XP-316B's 1,180 mm wheel capacity is the reference figure. Then decide the helper arm by sidewall stiffness, not by rim size — a 17-inch run-flat is harder work than a 22-inch touring tyre.

The XP-316D deserves its note: it carries the A group's clamping over a 1,040 mm wheel at the family's heaviest A-group weight, a configuration for workshops whose wheels outgrew the 316A before their rims did. For the variant distinctions beyond the table, ask per model at quote stage — by name.

Checks before a changer quote

  • Your rim book for the last month: largest size, and how often it appears.
  • Run-flat and low-profile share — the helper-arm decision.
  • Air supply sized with the bead-blast demand included.
  • Turntable position and wheel staging in the bay's flow.
  • Pairing with a balancer and the XP-300 lifter in one delivered set.

Questions buyers ask about tire changing machine

A group or B group for an SUV-heavy workshop?

B group. SUV wheels push both diameter and clamping, and the B group's 15–28 inch inside clamping is the figure your biggest fitments will test. The A group remains the better buy for a pure car parc.

What does the helper arm actually do?

It presses the tyre's bead down into the rim's drop centre and holds it there while the mounting head passes, taking the strain that stiff sidewalls would otherwise put into the head, the rim edge and the operator's hands.

Can one changer cover motorcycles too?

Car changers can be adapted, but for motorcycle work, take the XP-313MT's clamping figures from its own page.
