Truck tire changers

Truck tire changers

Truck wheels are heavy, stiff and unforgiving of car-sized machinery. This family handles them with a self-centring chuck, a travelling tool carriage and hydraulic drive — from the XP-468 group at 14–26 inch rims to the XP-499A at up to 60 inches with extensions.

Fit check: a truck changer is sized by your largest wheel and your tyre mix — tubeless radials and super-singles ask different things of the chuck and the bead-breaking disc.

Why truck tyres need their own machine

A truck tyre changer does three things a car changer cannot: it grips the wheel through its centre hole on a self-centring chuck, it travels the bead-breaking disc and mounting tool along the wheel on a carriage, and it turns the whole assembly with hydraulic torque instead of a turntable motor. The operator works standing, with low-voltage pendant controls, while the machine takes the weight and the strain that make truck tyre work an injury risk when it is done with bars and a hammer.

The range divides by rim size. The XP-468 group covers 14–26 inch rims and wheels to 500 kg; the XP-498 group reaches 14–42 inches and 1,600 kg wheels; the XP-402 works a 14–27 inch clamping range; and the heavy-duty XP-499 and XP-499A close the family at 14–46 and 14–48 inches, extending to 56 and 60 inches, for wheels to 2,000 kg. Take the heavy-duty pair from their own page; take the rest of the range from the family table here.

Checks before a truck-changer quote

  • Your largest wheel diameter and widest tyre, from the fleet list rather than memory.
  • Rim types: steel and alloy, and any centre-hole sizes outside the common range.
  • Daily wheel volume at peak season — the changer's cycle is the bay's clock.
  • Power supply and floor space for the machine's working footprint.
  • Whether a truck balancer joins the purchase to complete the bay.

Questions buyers ask about truck tire changers

Can a truck changer handle car wheels?

The rim ranges reach down to 14 inches, but these machines are sized and priced for truck work; a mixed bay usually runs a car changer beside one. Ask in the inquiry for the honest pairing for your volumes.

Tubeless and tubed tyres both?

The demounting method differs; describe your tyre mix — super-single tubeless, conventional tubeless, or remaining tubed fitments — and ask for the tool configuration for that mix before you order.

How much room does it need?

The machine's footprint plus the wheel handling room around the chuck; take the overall dimensions from the heavy-duty page to measure against.

Send an inquiry

Ask for the unit matched to your work. Send the model code you are considering and the work it will do each week; ask for that model's specification sheet in return.
