Car alignment

Car alignment machines

Six models — XP-A6, XP-A7, XP-A8, XP-A9, XP-A9L and XP-A10 — cover car alignment from the value end of the range to the full-automatic XP-A10. They share the 3D camera measuring idea and differ in camera arrangement, cabinet and software configuration: compare them on exactly those points.

Fit check: a car aligner fits when its cameras can see all four targets from where they stand in your bay — pace out the camera-to-wheel distances before you fall for a cabinet design.

How a 3D car aligner works

Cameras mounted on a beam or on posts read reflective targets clamped to the four wheels. The software builds the car's geometry from the target images — wheel angles, axle lines and the thrust line — and then guides the technician through the adjustment sequence on screen, live, as each adjuster moves. There is no turntable-mounted sensor head to cable up and no wheel runout ritual of the older kind; the clamping and the camera view are the setup.

That measuring idea is common to all six models, which is why the honest comparison between them is configuration: how the cameras are carried, what the cabinet contains, which clamp set is supplied, and what the software package covers. A specification sheet belongs to a configuration, not to a model name in the abstract: request the sheet for the configuration you are buying, using the request block below.

The six models, by role

The XP-A6 and XP-A7 open the range for workshops adding a dedicated alignment bay or replacing an older sensor aligner; they are the natural first 3D machines. The XP-A8 and XP-A9 step up the cabinet, display and software configuration for bays where alignment is a headline service. The XP-A9L is its own configuration in the range — include it in the sheet request and compare its returned configuration against the others. The XP-A10 heads the range as the full-automatic 3D aligner, for throughput work where the measurement cycle itself is the product being sold.

None of that ranking is about measuring accuracy, and you should not let anyone sell it that way: within one manufacturer's 3D range, accuracy claims belong to the individual model's specification sheet, in the configuration you are actually buying. Compare sheets, not adjectives.

Paperwork, checked the buyer's way

Alignment equipment sits in a category where documentation matters to importers and to workshops tendering for fleet work. The buyer's discipline is simple and it is the same for every model on this page: Ask for the current EC type-examination certificate for your exact model, and check the holder name and expiry date before you order. Documentation quoted for a different model, or held by an entity you cannot connect to your seller, is a question to settle before money moves, not after.

Apply the same discipline to the software: ask which vehicle database version ships with the cabinet, how updates are delivered, and what the update terms are after the first period. An aligner's value five years in is mostly its database currency, and that is a paperwork question at buying time.

How the car aligner range is configured

Ask for the configuration points below to be fixed in your quotation. Request each model's figures on its specification sheet, through the block under this table.

Configuration pointWhat it decides
Camera arrangementBeam-mounted or post-mounted cameras, and the measuring distance your bay must give them.
Targets and clampsThe target set and the clamp range that must cover your customers' rim sizes and tyre profiles.
Cabinet and displayCabinet, screen and printer package — the technician's working position all day.
Alignment softwareThe adjustment workflow, printouts and the vehicle database version supplied.
Lift pairingFour-post alignment lift or scissor platform, turntables and slip plates, quoted as one package.

Getting the numbers for a car aligner

Request the full specification sheet for this model, including measuring range and accuracy, before you specify it. Send the model code you are considering with your bay length and your lift type, and ask for the sheet for the configuration you would actually receive — the only version of the numbers worth comparing.

Bay checks before a car-aligner quote

  • Camera sight lines: an unobstructed view from the camera position to all four wheel positions.
  • Bay length for the longest car you align, plus the camera standoff in front of it.
  • Lift pairing settled: model of lift, turntables and rear slip plates.
  • Floor levelness across the lift area — alignment measures the car as it sits.
  • Cabinet position and power, with the printer where the customer paperwork is handled.

Questions buyers ask about car alignment machine

Which of the six models suits a two-bay workshop?

Usually the XP-A6 or XP-A7 end of the range: the measuring idea is the same, and a two-bay shop rarely uses the cabinet and automation steps the upper models sell. Spend the difference on the lift pairing and turntables, which the customer can see.

Do the aligners work on lowered or large-wheel cars?

Clamp range and target visibility decide, and both are configuration points: name your extreme cases — the lowest car, the largest wheel — in the inquiry and ask for the clamp set that covers them.

Can the aligner be added to my existing lift?

Often yes, if the lift holds the car level and takes turntables. Name the lift you have and its platform dimensions in the inquiry, and ask what the pairing needs.

Send an inquiry

Ask for the unit matched to your work. Send the model code you are considering and the work it will do each week; ask for that model's specification sheet in return.
